Organic Me!

Hi There! Isn't this a great pic of me?! I love it! It's one of my 6 month birthday pictures -tye dye socks, a strawberry hat and an organically grown onsie. I am organically grown you know? I eat mama milk and only organically grown foods. No ucky pesticides and growth hormones and chemical fertilizers for me. I get wholesome fruits and veggies with up to 70% more vitamins and minerals in them than conventionally, chemically grown ones. I had my first solids on my 6 month birthday - organic canned pears that mama canned herself. I love to eat solids, but have mostly mama-milk still at 8 and 1/2 months. My favorites solids are pears and bananas and apples and plums and peaches and mangoes and ...... Well, I frankly haven't had any that I didn't love. Only thing I've had that I didn't care for is rice. Mama made me rice cereal and tried giving it to me mashed and either way it tasted ucky to me. I do love oatmeal and millet tho. Yummy!! My favorite thing to eat is fresh squeezed carrot juice - especially with apples or parsley.  Posted by Picasa

Busy Lil Me!!!!

Hi Everyone!! I haven't been around in a while because I have been ever so busy!! Sea World, my first ballet, sign language... where to begin??

Well, let's see... last weekend, mama and dada brought me to Sea World. I generally had a great time, but I got an awful case of stranger fear! As soon as we got there, some stranger lady was in my face talking to me and checking me out like she'd known me forever. Mama called her Aunt Charmaine. I was really frightened! I don't think I ever saw her before, but mama said we actually lived with her and Uncle Ken for a while. Well, anyway, she held me and then I was even more frightened and wouldn't calm down til mama took me. We eventually got to be buddies, but I still wouldn't let her hold me! Maybe next time...

My favorite part of Sea World was the pet show! Mama held me and we stood up front in the aisle so I'd be able to see really well. There were so many kitties and doggies and some other animals too. Well, you all know how much I love doggies!! I smiled my biggest grin at them! It was such a great show - even mama and dada said so.

Later that same evening we went to see Ballet Magnificat whom mama did some training with when she was younger. I enjoyed watching some of it in the beginning when the dancers had pretty bright red dresses on, but then I got sleepy and went nite-nite - and then woke up crying really loud right in the middle of it!! Fortunately, mama had me right inside the back door and was able to get me out very quickly. And just so you know, I wasn't the only baby there or the noisiest for that matter. I was generally very good! Yeah for me. :-)

So, guess what I can do now?? You will never guess.... I'm getting ever so smart and can do some baby signs now. Yup! Did my very first one last night in the middle of the night around 2:30. Mama had decided when I was stirring for a drink that I needed a diaper change. While the light was on she asked me if I'd like some mama-milk and did the sign for it which is opening and closing the hand like you are milking a cow. I did the sign right back to her!! This morning I did it again - and just to be extra smart, I made my hand go towards hers and eat it up like pac-man. I can also do the sign for "doggie" and am beginning to get the sign for "please" which we use to mean "please help me." "Doggie" is sticking out the tongue and panting like a doggie. I just make a funny sound in my throat for it. "Please" is tapping your chest. I haven't quite got it, but when I'm frustrated and mama shows me the sign I calm right down and start to hit myself. Mama says it's kinda funny, but that I'll get it right soon.

I also can imitate funny sounds that mama and dada make and I'm almost crawling too! (And mama thought I'd never do that! Ha ha! I have her fooled!)

Well, as you can see i have been very busy! I'm sure I'll think of more to add soon, but right now it's my bed time and I'm getting tired of playing pat-a-cake on dada's hands while mama types for me (I just can't understand why she won't let me type this - I really do love the keyboard!!) Oh well, nite nite and more to come soon. ~ Helena Grace

Produce and Puppies

Hi, I must begin by saying that I am in love with myself - absolutely adore me. I kissed myself on the mirror for ever so long this afternoon, making sure to blow raspberries while I was at it. Not like mommy doesn't spend 1/2 the day kisssing me, but a girl can never get too many kisses, you know.

Now on to produce and puppies. Yesterday mama and I went to the local health food market -and I got to help shop for the produce. What a wealth of interesting textures and colours. I got to touch bumpy, bright oranges and dark green avocadoes, smooth red tomatoes, and wrinkly greens, and organic apples that smelled so sweet when I sniffed them. I have to say my favorite tho were the red onions with their crinkly sounding skins. Mama says I need more practice in picking produce tho because I have a tendency to go for the bruised stuff. Guess that means I will be feeling lots more of it!!! :-) It was fun!!!

After we picked out our produce we stopped at the organic juice bar and mommy and I shared a fresh squeezed carrot, apple juice with a sprig of parsley blended into it. MMMmmmm...... This is one of my favorites! I drank it right from the cup just like a big girl. Well, almost like a big girl excepting the fact that I got it not only all over my bib but also on mama's pants, my shirt, my hair... My face was all orange too when I was done! What fun!

With all that excitement I just crashed in the car on the way home - but when I woke up, we weren't home and somehow Starbuck, our doggie, had ended up in the car. We were at some fenced in field with lots of trees and there were several doggies running around playing. Mommy and I rocked on the hammock while Starbuck met the other doggies. Then we went to meet some doggies too. I thought they were all so cute, but my favorites were the little ones - maybe 'cause I'm little too!! Anyway, they wanted to meet me so I got to touch them while they sniffed me. Starbuck was sooooo jealous and came over and pushed his way into the circle and jumped up on the owner of the two little dogs. I think he wanted to make sure I was ok too 'cause after that he was fine with us being friends.

So there you have it - produce and puppy dogs all in the same day. Enough to wear any baby out and boy did I sleep well last night.
Bye bye for now! ~ Helena Grace

A few of my favorite things... and a few not so favorites too

I'm 7 and 1/2 months old now and up to all kinds of new antics. My favorite is giving kisses. I began kissing mommy around 5 and 1/2 or 6 months -but those kisses were so random that daddy wondered if they were really kisses. Mommy knew tho because mommies just have a way about them of knowing certain things. Anyway, I'm kissing much more now. Sometimes they are open mouthed wet kisses, but more and more they are with puckered lips and a little noise like a puff of air escaping my lips - or sometimes even a little "raspberry" sound. I give kisses to my friends and my mama and dada and even to my baby doll. Today I kissed the doggie too. As you can see I'm getting quite adept at this new milestone.

When it comes to other things (like crawling) I'm taking my jolly old time. I can't be bothered with spending time on my tummy. Can someone say B-O-R-I-N-G.... I roll right back over and then try to sit up (and sometimes succeed). I much prefer to view the world from a sitting or standing position. Soon I will be able to stand on my own. I can do it if mama holds onto my hands or waist band or something.

Another favorite activity is blowing raspberries. I began that back in December. I imagine that I am a super hero called Bubble Baby and when I blow bubbles I am blowing troubles away (like sore gums). Sometimes it takes me a while and I have to do raspberry sounds for 15 minutes straight!! But then all is right with the world, not to mention that everything and everyone around me has received a shower. So this is a double duty skill...

Lets see... I also like to play with my feet (especially when I'm naked). I began that around 6 months. Of course I can roll over in both directions - that's easy. I like baths, but not showers. I like to stick my tongue out and then shake my arms and legs and head like a crazy person, very funny and it's sure to get some kind of reaction. In the last week I've begun to say "dada" on random occasions. And my most favorite thing of all (besides mama-milk and snuggling and mama and dada and...) is the doggie. I just can't get enough of that silly orange and white furry thing. He is sooooo funny!! Oh my goodness, the other day he scratched himself. I just coudnt' stop laughing!! And sometimes - would you believe it - I catch him eating something. That is just so funny! I wish you could see it! Oh, and he looks at me too - absolutely hysterical!

I'm sure I have other favorites (like pulling doggie and human hair - "gentle" is just no fun!) but I can't think of anything else now.
Bye bye ~ Helena Grace
