Mommy's New Dress

A few weeks ago when Aunt Kt was visiting, Kt and I took a short trip out to shop. I came home with a new dress and tried it on for daddy and Helena. Daddy loved it. Helena was another story. "Helena, look. Mommy got a new dress! Do you like it?" With a little shrug of the shoulders and turn of the head to the side she replied quite matter of factly, "No."

Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey Diddle Diddle is currently Helena's favorite nursery rhyme. Every night as she is drifting off to sleep she says to me "Cow?" and I quote her the nursery rhyme once or twice. She is enamored by the thought of a cow jumping over the moon.

Today we printed off pictures from the computer for her to color. She is coloring the cow jumping over the moon as I write.

Speaking of cows... I was tickling her "calves" today and she looked at me and said "cow!" I laughed ever so hard!

Swing Kitty

If you ask Helena what she gets when we get our new house, she will tell you "fwing" ie a swing. Then she may go on to say "Daddy push Heyna fwing, peas". She also is excited that we are getting a kitty with the "new house". Today she saw me looking at a magazine and pointed out a nice place and said "That nice house [for] Kitty"

Aunt Kt

This was a very special weekend for Helena. Her Aunt Katie came and spent the entire weekend with us. Helena was so excited and kept telling me. "Aunt Kt humming" (remember - she often substitutes an "h" for a "c".

Well, Aunt Kt was apparently all that Helena's imagination had her cracked up to be and maybe even more. Often during the weekend, Helena would look up with adoring eyes and say "Hi" or sometimes Kt would look down to find Helena copying her down to the crossed legs and hands folded in the lap.

After a day or so of building towers with blocks, tickle bugs, and lots of stories with Aunt Kt, it was time for Helena's afternoon nap. But with all that excitement, who could possibly sleep?! After a few stories Helena cuddled down with Mommy and then on the pillow. But she was very restless. After studying a postcard on the wall for a few seconds she said "Bear fishing in pond - big pond" quite surprising even mommy with her vocabulary. Then the Kt obsession set in. "Where my Kt?"
"I want my Kt"
"When my Kt humming?" on and on and on. Finally mommy, (thinking I am so smart I might add) said "If you go night night then Aunt Kt will come". This prompted a brief moment of stillness wherein Helena chanted a mantra of "Kt humming. My Kt humming. My Kt humming. My Kt humming. My kt humming." Which soon errupted into an exasperated. "When my Kt humming????" Mommy couldn't contain her laughter at this point and thought maybe Helena would fall asleep better if Aunt Kt were there.

Enter Aunt Kt from stage left... Mommy and Helena and Kt are now all snuggled up in bed.

First Helena began to stroke Aunt Kt's cheek and play with her hair, things she often does to Mommy as she is falling asleep, but which were quite funny to Aunt Kt. Kt pretended to be asleep and Helena watched her with hawk eyes. Mommy was watching the two of them as she knew Kt was trying not to laugh (tho for a moment she was wondering if Kt was trying not to fall asleep). But soon Aunt Kt opened her eyes to two people staring at her and all three of us burst into laughter.

Well, I guess I have failed in my motherly duties as Helena did not have a nap that day. An hours worth of trying to fall asleep and she was just as wound as the moment her head hit the pillow!

Yesterday, Aunt Kt went home. This morning Helena said "Where my Kt?"
I replied "Aunt Kt went home to Aunt Kt's house".
"Gammie's" Helena added.
"Yes," I said. "Aunt Kt lives with Grammie"
"Kt gone" Helena reflected.

Later this evening Helena popped up out of the blue "I want my Kt!" and a few moments later "When my Kt humming?" Then "When Heyna see Kt?"

I think someone is well loved and missed!

Hold Your Horses

Earlier today as Helena was trying to quickly exit the dinner table before being washed up, I told her to "hold your horses". So she proceeded to grab the reins and bounce up and down as if riding - complete with sound effects. LOL She is sooo funny!

Pink Pee Pee (warning TMI)

We had a little scare with Helena recently. Her digestive system was quite messed up. Upon speaking with her doctor we learned this is a common side affect of intense teething due to excess saliva getting into the stomach.

But then she pooped and it was red - we figured it was blood if it dried brown or undigested sauce from last night's pasta if it dried red. The tp later showed it was the latter - sigh of relief!

But then she peed pink. Was it really blood? Now we were really concerned and placed yet another call to her doctor. She was mystified. We debated bringing her into the ER but she had no fever and seemed to be just fine other than some teething pain. We googled "pink urine" (gotta love google!) and first thing the medical article said was to go to an ER in case of pink urine. It went on and on about kidney or bladder problems. By the time we were in a good panic, it stated that "eating beets can make the urine pink". Oh did we laugh!!!

Farmer's Market

A nearbye town has a wonderful farmer's market that we greatly enjoy every week. Helena loves to go and "pet ticken" as one of the farmer's brings a hen and rooster along every time. I hope this will counter the city girl influences in her life. From inside our apartment she frequently tells me "Mommy, I hear siren". Not to mention that she likes to go to the park tho she has no idea what a yard is. And to make matters worse she tells me "Mommy, fax coming. Papers coming" or "Daddy bye bye working. Daddy work papers". When she leaves work she tells everyone "See ya!" or "Peace out".

So hopefully the farmer's market (not to mention the house with 1/2 acre we will soon have) will counter some of the more urban indoor influences.

Recently at the farmer's market there was a really great blue's band. Helena was dancing along animatedly as they played and sang. She was so into it that the lead singer made up a verse about her. It went something like this:

"Oh my girl all in pink.
I love her better than the kitchen sink.
Got her hair all in braids
And she aint afraid
Dancing inthe hall....."

Helena also likes to watch the lady at the market spinning wool. Today when I was sewing, she kept calling the thread "wool".

Sayings

A few changes now. Mommy says I have quite the voice of my own, so from now on, she will not write for me, but rather write about me and include lots of the things that I am saying.

Helena now has about 10 or 12 teeth after several months of intense teething. Up until recently she only had 4! She is talking up a storm about everything.

"More books daddy. Yes daddy, please daddy" said oh so sweetly.

"I eat eggy with fry next to Kt" fry being her term for ketchup - a little confusion there. And she was so excited that her Aunt Kt was coming to visit her. "Eggy with fry on it" is her favorite food as of late. She just has to have it every morning. No thanks to daddy for corrupting such a wonderful food with "fry". LOL

We have just bought a house which comes complete with it's own orphaned cat. Helena knows the cat will hiss at the dog but is not always sure how to tell us that. "Doggie do (insert very dramatic hissing noise) to kitty"

A new favorite word lately has been no. "Helena can I have a hug?" She turns her head to the side, chin up and eyebrows raised and says very casually with a little shake of the head "No". LOL

She is convinced everyone is hot and needs to have their sweaters/jackets unzipped and taken off. Oh, and she is obsessed with pockets. Heaven forbid she doesn't have one. The object will go straight down her pants. Or else she will stick it thru the front of her sweater and go "oh oh - where'd go?" completely confused as to why it is on the floor and not in her "pocket". She gets her daddy and I rolling with laughter!

Another favorite phrase: When we get up in the moring I will sometimes ask her what she wants to do that day. Her answer is always "Anu, Sarah, potty". In other words, go to her friend's house and use their potty. Oh, the thrill!!

She has a Dr Seuss book with the phrase "hop on pop" - something she loves to do on her daddy's belly. He says "no, don't hop on pop" and she bounces up and down alternately pretending to be a "sorsey" (ie horsey) complete with "nay" sound effects or else she says "hop on pop!" and bounces.

Speaking of "pop" she is absolutely enamored with her Pop-Pop whom she knows from pictures, having only met him once. She also calls any older gentleman a "Pop- Pop" pointing them out in magazines and books.
