Kids go through their stages of loving certain things. Helena has a few obsessions of late.
She is totally obsessed with Winnie the Pooh - or more specifically with Christopher Robin. "Mommy" she tells me "I think Christopher Robin is hysterical!" She is constantly running around the house pretending to be playing with him and will come see me and tell me that Christopher Robin is with her and Pooh Bear and Tigger and "owl is flying overhead".
Another frequent playmate is Sikha, the imaginary white dog. She pets him, talks to him, acts out entire scenarios around him. It's hysterical to see her all of a sudden talking to seemingly "nothing". She has such a vivid imagination. Other assorted make believe animals join her at times, bunnies, kittens, the cast of Pooh Bear, but Sikha is probably her favorite.
Lastly Helena is obsessed with birth. Guess that's what happens when one of mommy's friends is a doula, another is in doula training, one has a newborn and one is pregnant. So anyway, she just loves to look at the Bradley birth book and see the babies being born and ask questions about it all.
Thus it's not unusual for her to pop up out of the blue with something like "I have a baby in my tummy and it's going to be born out of my uterus and then I'm going to be changing diapers all day long!"
Oh and I can't forget "Why?" She's at the stage where she thinks that an appropriate response to absolutely everything.

Our Little Actress
Anyone who knows Helena will be sure to testify that she is indeed a drama queen. She's just very expressive about absolutely everything (not sure where she gets that from...).
So today I commented before we got out of bed that it would be fun to go visit my Aunt Susan. Helena sort of sighed and got a slow pout on her face. She laid her head down on the pillow with her eyebrows slightly furrowed.
"I can't go visit Aunt Susan" she said very quietly. "I'm not feeling good."
Well, mommy knew just how to make a little girl feel better and so the "tickle bugs" came. But she went right back to her little act as soon as I was through tickling her. "Aunt Susan has a swimming pool in her backyard" I said.
Oh how fast her countenance changed! "Can I go in it?!" she excitedly asked eyebrows now raised and a look of eager anticipation on her face (like I said, the face is *always* very expressive).
"Well" I replied "I don't think you can go in it because you aren't feeling good". Ha ha! This works now but I'll be in trouble when she can outsmart me. Of course she was now feeling better.
"I will have to wear my babing suit!" she declared.
"We would have to get you a new bathing suit" I told her "You have grown bigger and yours won't fit anymore."
This was exciting news indeed to her! She stood up on the bed so we could all see how she had grown. Then she says to me "When I grow bigger and bigger then I can go on the counters and I can hold knives! You and daddy can go talk and play with toys and I will make something." This was all said with the same expression that another kid might show if they were told they were going to.. oh... say Disney. I asked her what she would make. "Pas-ta" she enunciated and then stood there with her mouth wide open and her eyebrows raised. "Is that you favorite? she asked continuing the expression of mock excitement. "Oh yes" I played along, and so the game went.
Oh my! She is dramatic and does have a penchant for story telling (the good kind). I really wish you could see some of the expressions she comes up with. My mom was here recently and was just cracking up the whole time. It's very cute!

Smelly Farts Make Me Cry
Yes, it's true - smelly farts do make Helena cry, and our smelly bathroom drain (we need a plumber in here!) has been known to do the same. Now we do try very hard to take our little daughter's emotions seriously, but this crying when someone lets loose a smelly one had my dh nearly in tears the other night and me not close behind. Oh oh - I think we've failed as parents lol!

Happy "Baletimes" Day!!
We made heart shaped gingerbread cookies - sweetened with maple syrup rather than sugar. The "frosting" was cream cheese, milk, banana to thicken it cause I used too much milk ;), strawberries to color it pink and some maple syrup for sweetness. Helena has declared "I love frosting!" Gotta love that.
So here she is frosting her cookies - and enjoying them too. Notice the one where she adds more frosting to the already bitten cookie. ;)
Helena Getting Married
Helena told me today that she was getting married as she donned the proper attire. I told her she should go show daddy to which she replied "No! It's exccciiiiiting!! It's just for girls!" No idea where she came up with that! Anyway, I figured I ought to take some pictures so her daddy - not to mention future hubby ;) - could see them.
